How Often Should You Tune your Piano?
How Often Should You Tune your Piano? It is a popular idea that you need to tune your piano twice in the year. That has become the standard that is required to have a piano playing well. Most piano tutorial or any form of online piano lesson that you might have taken will probably have told you that you need to tune your piano two times every year. However it is now generally believed that a piano needs to be tuned four times in the year that is once during each of the four seasons. Now tuning a piano quarterly might seem like a daunting task but it will be worth it in the long run if you want to have a playing piano in perfect condition. This is because as your piano tutorial must have taught you a piano is basically a stringed instrument and like all other stringed instruments it has a tendency to stray off pitch. Tuning your piano four times during the year that is once every three months will help that much played piano of yours return to its original state after all the playing piano and alteration brought on by the climate changes. This is especially required is places where all the four seasons are felt properly. In places like this if you tune the piano just twice a year the seasonal changes will play havoc and all the effort that goes into learning how to play piano and the money spent on piano lesson will not yield fruit if you are playing on a off tune piano. So remember to tune your piano in equal intervals. Consider two things while making your own piano tuning schedule. Firstly, think of the local weather. The soundboard of a piano is sensitive to moisture, temperature and the over all weather of the region. Fluctuations in temperature and humidity are detrimental to the health of a piano and hence it requires tuning in regular and frequent intervals. And secondly consider the amount of use the piano is subjected to. If you are learning how to play piano or are a regular player and are using the piano a lot then it requires tuning in shorter intervals. On the whole, tuning four times a year is the ideal, you can get away with twice but no piano should go without tuning for more than a year.
